The McNeil Center for Early American Studies (MCEAS) Consortium Undergraduate Research Workshop was established in 2008 to extend the benefits of the Center to undergraduate students enrolled at MCEAS Consortium institutions, including Iona University. The workshop provides a structured environment in which advanced undergraduates researching in the field of early American studies can meet one another, as well as graduate students and faculty, to discuss ideas, source materials, and methods. A highlight of the program is the individual mentoring given to each undergraduate by the Center’s Fellows. Undergraduate participants gather at the Center twice: first to meet their mentors and introduce their research project, then to present excerpts of their final papers in a conference format. The Workshop offers undergraduates firsthand experience with several stages of scholarly production, as the meetings include archival tours and are scheduled alongside the Center’s works-in-progress seminars.
Application information for the annual URW is available beginning in November of that academic year, with an application deadline in December. If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Nora Slonimsky at nslonimsky@iona.edu.
